The choices are bountiful this weekend for those seeking entertainment or cultural events, ranging from a Portuguese Fado singer in Annisquam to a musical maritime chamber music concert in east Gloucester.

Arts Festival
This Saturday the city of Manchester-by-the-Sea will become a center of artistic activity with its annual Summer Arts Festival in Manchester, which takes place throughout the downtown area 9:00 to 6:00 p.m. There will be approximately 100 artists jury that will establish stations throughout the city center. There will also be music for the event.
Celebrating Maritime
Music at Eden this board the centerpiece of its 30th anniversary with a concert Saturday, July 23 at 8:00 p.m., set amidst the artistic environment at the North Shore Arts Association. The performance includes a commissioned work by American composer Howard Rovics, "Journey: A Seagoing Narrative with Music," which will be narrated by Gordon Baird. This piece is based on Richard Henry Dana's novel "Two Years before the Mast," and evokes the era of the tall ships. The second piece is "Listening to the Sea Winds," which is a musical celebration based around seven poems by Gloucester's late poet laureate Vincent Ferrini (1913-2007).
The idea behind this concert program was to evoke the North Shore's rich history as well as the area's literary contributions. The concert features an unusually large and diverse ensemble with violin, oboe, bassoon, cello, harp and percussion.
