South, Central win New Jersey Scholastic Baseball Coaches All-Star Games

"I like any team that beats the Yankees, so the Red Sox are fine," Downes said.

John Roszell of Manchester Township hit a two-run home run in the third inning and Bob Harris of Lakewood contributed a two-run single in the ninth to lead the South to a 10-5 victory over the Northwest in one game.

In the other game, Downes led Central to a 19-7 victory over the Northeast team by going 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

The Delaware Division of the Skyland Conference is arguably one of the most competitive in the state. Drawing teams from Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, all nine schools qualified for the NJSIAA tournament. Ridge's J.B. Kole, headed to Villanova, started the game for the Central team, going two innings. He was joined by Steven Bloodworth of North Hunterdon, Mike Daley (three-run home run) of Immaculata, Sean Keselic a (two-run triple) of Voorhees, D.J. Ruhlman (run, RBI) of Montgomery and Brandon Young (RBI) of Hillsborough. Josh Ake and Chris Suseck of Hunterdon Central were unable to attend because of their baseball banquet. "I feel as comfortable as I did in all of the other games I played in because we've been in the state tournament and nothing is more pressure than that,"Henriquez said in the dugout immediately after his second shot. "I feel real comfortable up there, seeing the ball well. I don't think anybody's blown it by me recently. I take it all over the field, spread the field.
