Bedlam forces change in high school football title games

Bedlam forces change in HS football title games Bedlam has pushed up the high school state championship football games for the three largest classes, but the games will remain at Oklahoma State.

The Class 6A state title game will be held at Boone Pickens Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m., the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association ruled Tuesday at its board of directors meeting.

The 5A and 4A state title games will be on Friday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The games were initially scheduled for Dec. 2-3 but had to be moved after the Big 12 pushed OSU's home matchup with Oklahoma back a week to Dec. 3.

"Obviously it's tough to play those games on Bedlam day, but they are still committed to hosting us there," the OSSAA's David Jackson said.

OSU contacted the OSSAA after the Bedlam game moved back a week, Jackson said.

Class 6A semifinal games could still take place on Saturday, Nov. 26, but Jackson said the OSSAA will try to keep both semifinal games on the same day so teams have an equal amount of rest.

The OSSAA has never played state title games on Friday morning, so Jackson said attendance could be a concern.

"We've never done it before," Jackson said. "We're hoping football fans in Oklahoma live up to what we think, and they'll come out."

The state title games for Classes 3A-C will not change. Stillwater High School will host B and C during the weekend of Dec. 3. Boone Pickens Stadium will host 3A, 2A and A the following weekend.
