Relaxing retreat at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica

There is much one can say about the Pueblo Bonito chain of resorts and spas in Los Cabos, Mexico.

One naturally starts by raving about the immaculate location of the four properties. The Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and Pueblo Bonito Pacifica are found along a quiet stretch of sand on the rowdy Pacific Ocean. The Pueblo Bonito Rosé and Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos are on the dazzling Sea of Cortez, across from the iconic El Arco rock formation. Located under an hour from the San Jose del Cabo airport, the properties are easily accessible in what has become known as the go-to Mexican destination for luxury.

Hours could be spent discussing the array of activities available to nature and adventure lovers available in the surrounding area, from kayaking and parasailing to snorkeling in turquoise waters surrounded by an array of vibrant tropical fish.

And how could one not rave about the food, all of which is boldly gourmet and purposefully rich. Menus vary across the chain, offering both traditional Mexican dishes like chicken mole and churros, and more world fare, like incredibly fresh tuna sushi and decadent homemade pastas.

The one word that my mother and I seemed to use most, though, when talking about our visit to the Pueblo Bonito properties was “relaxing.” Everything they do is to ensure the total relaxation of their guests. It was in the seemingly smallest, but obviously well-planned, details that we found complete Zen.

We arrived at the San Jose del Cabo airport after an early morning flight from Toronto via Chicago. Raymundo, our driver from TransCabo, pointed out popular local attractions and happily answered questions about the area on our way to the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, the chain’s only adults-only property and our luxe home-away-from-home.

The Pacifica is billed as a holistic retreat, which is evident upon arrival. Staff greeted us with hibiscus juice as we entered the lobby, which had a distinct “spa” smell, likely wafting up from the Armonia Spa on the level directly below. A shallow pool centred in the lobby was just one of many water features on the property. Just past it, glass doors opened to a patio with a fantastic view of the resort, including palm tree, aloe and cactus populated gardens, stunning infinity pools and white sand beach, where the waves of the Pacific thundered against the shore.

We were escorted to our suite down an open hallway.
