If you're looking for a way to make a difference while enjoying yourself, here are some upcoming social events raising needed funds for local nonprofit groups.
Porsches & Police
In the stereotype, police and Porsche owners interact only when the former is stopping the latter for speeding.
On June 26 the two groups will come together at History Park to raise funds for the San Jose Police Foundation and Tapestry Arts.
The inaugural Porsches & Police event will feature more than 60 new and vintage Porsches and police vehicles from local cities on display from noon to 6 p.m. in History Park, 1650 Senter Road.
The Hitmen will perform from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; the Cadillac Jack Band will perform from 4 to 6 p.m.; and the Jubilee Christian Center Choir will perform in-between.
Vendors include Willow Street Pizza, Lou's Village, Bottomley Distribution and Guglielmo Winery.
Admission is $3 for those 8 and older and parking is $6.
Christmas in July
Fans of Christmas in the Park have a chance to support the group with its biggest fundraiser—Christmas in July.
This year it's on July 16 in the Circle of Palms in downtown San Jose, adjacent to the San Jose Museum of Art and across from Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park.
The evening includes hors d'oeuvres from area restaurants, a barbecue dinner and dancing to the music of Sage. There's also a silent auction and a treasure chest drawing.

The theme "Keep the Lights Burning in 2011" is more than a theme as money is essential to continue the tradition of Christmas in the Park, where the park is filled with mechanical displays, decorated trees, carolers and other activities Nov. 25 through Jan. 1 from 9 a.m. to midnight daily.
Santa Claus will be among the honored guests.
Rain delays
The unseasonable rains of early June has resulted in the rescheduling of several outdoor events.
InnVision's Garden Gala will now take place on June 26 in the beautifully landscaped gardens at the Atherton home of Michele and John McNellis.
"InnVision in Wonderland" includes an elegant high tea party with specialty foods and drinks, musical guests, a jewelry raffles and a live auction.
