Union complaint over Duffy's arrest reaches Fox News
Duffy appeared on Fox and Friends, the network's morning show, earlier today, June 16.
A tweet from the show's Twitter account at 7:53 a.m. today read, "A police union in PA is filing suit against a non union officer who made an off duty drug arrest- is this retaliation? What do u think?"
"I have a vested interest in the city of Scranton, not just as the police chief but as a citizen," Duffy said during the TV interview today. "For me not to go out and take a vested interest in the community I serve is the wrong thing to do.
"I'm absolutely in the right here."
The complaint was dismissed in a letter from the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board last month.
In the May 18 letter, Board Secretary Jennifer Kreider wrote that “no complaint will be issued and your charge is dismissed,” adding earlier that “Chief Duffy, as a police officer, was required to make an off duty arrest when he witnessed a crime being committed.”
Duffy has aimed to put the incident behind him, but union officials have indicated that they will appeal the ruling.
