Stewart Cink: Tour Needs Tiger Woods To 'Play Great Again'

The US Open Golf Tournament will be held beginning Thursday at Congressional Country Club and the entire world knows by now that Tiger Woods will not be playing. Veteran PGA Tour member Stewart Cink recently joined Sporting News Radio with Two Live Stews to discuss Woods, the Open and much more.

Here is what Cink had to say about Woods, whose future is in doubt because of the condition of his damaged left knee.

One thing I do know is it must be pretty bad or he would’ve attempted to play. Just to know that he’s not playing at all, that tells you something. Will it last a long time? There’s no way for any of us to know that unless you’ve checked his knee out or whatever’s hurting. … I know we’re going to miss him when he’s gone because Tiger Woods drives the bus in terms of the popularity of golf. It doesn’t matter what he’s ranked, he’s going to be driving the bus until he retires. We need him to come back out there and be healthy and play great again."

The 2 Live Stews hit charity route Saturday at Bill Lowe Art ...

The 2 Live Stews are those rambunctious brothers you know and love (or not) on 790/The Zone. But they also know part of their imaging is to give back.

Their two-year-old Stewart Education Foundation raises monies for organizations that help give scholarships to students, primarily black males interested in becoming teachers.

“There’s a serious lack of black males in the school system,” said Doug Stewart today. “We’re basically infusing some of our ideals to help the community.”

On Saturday, the Stews are holding a fundraiser at Bill Lowe Art Gallery at 1555 Peachtree St. in Atlanta from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. “It’s a party for a purpose, as Tom Joyner says,” Stewart noted. DJ Kid Capri will be spinning tunes and there’s an open bar. Better yet, tickets at www.professionalrelaxation.com are just $20 and $10 if you type in “For the kids” into the code box. They will be handing out two $2,500 grants from previous monies raised.

Long-time Stews supporter Crown Royal is a big sponsor, guaranteeing $10,000 as long as 100 people tweet #crownroyal and #tsef and promote the event. Stewart said he assumes at this point that thisgoal has already been reached but please Tweet away!

It’s a casual event, Stewart added, so dress like you’re going to a lounge.

Singers and athletes will be there, of course. New Edition singer Ronnie DeVoe and Tech grad and Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson are two who have confirmed.

its amazing…roddney…John Kincaid and 680 the fan have for 15 yrs + done more charity work in atlanta then any other radio staion in town….and you never write on how they are so involved in raising money for these causes….but as soon as the two live Dumb A$$e$ do something for a charity…you have the urge to write about it….come on roddney….all the station in atlanta do charity work….talk about them as well….instead of stroking 790 the Zone on a regular basis….what will you write about when eventually Lincoln Financial drops the sports format or they sell to the Dickey’s…..and write how unfair it is that they were sold or the format changed….
