Gadgets: Ultra slim widescreen monitor has excellent image quality, low price

There's not a lot I can say about the AOC 23-inch ultra slim (.5 inch/12.7 millimeters) Aire Black LED widescreen monitor except that it has excellent image quality for a great low price.

Power consumption is minimal with its three-mode eSaver function. This allows only 15 watts of energy to be used when in full use, 7.5 in Power Save mode and just 0.1 in standby.

A multifunctional stand allows for either wall mounting or desktop use with the monitor that features a glossy piano-black finish and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The great image quality is produced with its 50,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio and 5ms response time, according to the company.

Embedded screen software allows users to divide it into four separate work areas.

Input is DVI-D with HDCP and was plug and play with an Apple MacBook Pro.

Kodak's new ESP Office 2170 Printer is a nice addition to the company's line of efficient all-in-one (AiO) home printer solutions.

The AiO category includes copies (color or B&W), fax, print and scanning. But what brought Kodak to the table in this category is its commitment to affordable printing with cost efficient ink cartridges.

This continues with the 2170 model, with the lowest ink replacement cost, lower energy running costs (Energy Star certified) producing low cost-per-page printing using Kodak's No. 30 Series (one set included) pigment-based ink cartridges.

The thing I like most (besides the low-cost ink) is how simple the unit is to work. I don't recommend ignoring instructions or quick-start guides, but I know most people do and this one was a breeze to work without using much of the paperwork.

Kodak rates the ink able to print up to 335 black text pages and up to 275 in color (these numbers can vary depending on the documents' content.)

Up to 25 pages can be fed at once for scanning, along with 150 sheets of plain paper or 40 sheets of photo-quality paper for printing.

All of the controls are on a front angled display for easy access. This includes a 1.5-inch LCD for menu options along with displaying thumbnails and buttons to access everything else.

A USB port and SD card slot enable computer-free and Pictbridge printing options.

It also prints wireless (802.11 b/g/n) and when you download the Kodak Pic Flick App you can print from an Apple iOS devices (iPod touch, iPhone, iPad 2) and BlackBerry devices.
